Thursday, August 2nd, 2007And there it is right there, most new believers were taught that if they said a little prayer and asked Jesus to come into their life that they would then be a new creature and life would be wonderful. And yes, to some extent that’s true. But do we automatically stop sinning from that point on? Probably not, even though we now have the power of God’s Holy spirit to keep us from sinning. And after we’re first saved do we immediately begin exhibiting a righteous Godly behavior? No, most of us don’t. Most of us probably don’t even feel righteous and holy.
And after several yers of salvation I wonder why I, at times still struggle with Godlinesss, and why do I still long for the fruit of the spirit? Because I haven’t been walking by the spirit. I don’t want to have to try to be holy, I just want it to be my nature. I don’t want to put any effort into it. I just want it to come on it’s own. I want to be a Godly robot for the Lord.
Haven’t we all felt that way at times? But praise God I have learned the truth.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” Romans 12:2
We renew our minds so we can know God’s perfect will.
1 Thessalonians 4:3 says “For this is the will of God even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication… for God hath not called us unto uncleanness but unto holiness.”
“Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14
Jesus said in Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect”
“Be holy”
“Follow peace”
“Be perfect”
But, how Lord?
Look at 1 Peter 1:14-15 “As obedient children not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: but as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.”
And again it comes back to Romans 12:2 by the renewing of your mind.
